Capitally is a web application, but it can be installed and used as any other app on both desktop and mobile devices.
This way, you will be able to add it to your dock and desktop, utilize the full screen estate and use Capitally even without internet connection.
Is there an App Store or Play Store app?
No. Capitally is not distributed through the App Store, Google Play or any other store, and there is no installer to download. It is a web application you open at app.mycapitally.com on Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. Installing it from the browser, as described below, gives you the things a store download would: a dock or home-screen icon, a standalone window with no browser chrome, and offline access.
The mobile version is the same app with a layout built for a narrow screen — same project, same data, same login. Nothing is held back for desktop.
Supported browsers
Capitally runs in any current browser. Chrome and Microsoft Edge are the recommended ones and reliably offer the desktop install. Other Chromium-based browsers — Brave, Opera, Arc — run the app, though the install option is not always available. Firefox runs the app but cannot install it. Safari requires version 16.5 or later; 15.6 and older will not work.
Keep the browser up to date. An out-of-date build fails in ways that look nothing like a version problem — a sign-in that hangs, a CSV read as the wrong format — so updating it is the first thing to try when something misbehaves. For importing files, Chromium-based browsers are the most reliable; Firefox has known trouble with CSV encoding on Windows.
If the app feels sluggish, install it as described below — a PWA runs in its own process instead of competing with your other tabs. Troubleshooting the app covers the rest: errors on load, freezes, and values that differ between devices.
Installing on Desktop
Capitally can be installed on Chrome, Edge, Brave, and other chromium-based browsers. Here's how:
- Navigate to app.mycapitally.com on Chrome, Edge, Brave, and other chromium-based browser.
- Look for an install button on the right side of the location bar and click it.
- Done. Look for it in your dock and Applications folder.
Safari on a Mac has no install icon in the address bar; use File → Add to Dock in the menu bar instead.
To make Capitally work offline, you need to open the application at least once. This will allow it to download all necessary assets and data.
Installing on iOS
You can add Capitally to your home screen on your iOS device. Here's how:
- Navigate to app.mycapitally.com on Safari or Chrome.
- Open the sharing menu.
- Choose the "Add to Home Screen" option.
- You will be asked to confirm the shortcut title.
- Once confirmed, Capitally will be added to one of your home screens, from where you can use it as any other app.
You'll be asked to log in again
The installed app has its own storage, separate from the browser you installed it from — an additional layer of separation, and the reason a session in Safari doesn't carry over. Sign in once inside the installed app and it stays signed in. If the login itself gives you trouble, see Your account and signing in.
Cookie consent sits in that same storage, so the installed app asks you again. Enable functionality cookies there as well, or it will keep opening the Demo project and forgetting your table columns — see Settings and display preferences.
Installing on Android
Installing Capitally on your Android device is straightforward. Here's how:
- Navigate to app.mycapitally.com on Chrome.
- Open the browser menu and choose Install app. Chrome sometimes offers a banner of its own, and Capitally's prompt appears once you have used the app for a moment.
- You will be asked to confirm the shortcut title.
- Once confirmed, Capitally will be added to one of your home screens, from where you can use it as any other app.

Using Capitally on a phone
The mobile layout carries the same data as the desktop one, rearranged for a narrow screen. Tap Position above the positions list to choose which columns are visible and which of them sorts the list — the same column controls as on desktop, in a different place.
Uninstalling Capitally
To uninstall Capitally, simply remove the icon from your dock, home screen or apps folder.
